Like most things you buy these days, you can find some good prices on new tires for your motorcycle on the internet. But there are a couple of things you need to consider before buying these discount motorcycle tires.
The first thing you need to remember is that tires you buy online don't come with someone to mount them for you. You'll have two choices here - do the work yourself or pay a local shop to mount them for you.
If you're planning to pay a local shop to do the work for you, make sure you check the prices first. If you have to spend what you save on the tires for someone to mount them for you, it doesn't really make sense. You might as well just buy them locally so you have someone you can deal with easily if you have any problems.
Another advantage you might have by buying from a local shop instead of over the internet is repairs and warranty coverage. Some tire dealers offer road hazard protection and other warranties for normal wear and tear. Even if these coverages are offered by the online sellers, it can be a lot easier to deal with when it's somebody you can talk to face to face.
There are still plenty of opportunities to find cheap tires in your local shops. They often offer sales, either on discontinued tire models or just at certain times of the year. If you local weather means you've got a riding season, look for discounts at the beginning and the end of the season. This is when many dealers have specials.
Some brands are more likely to be discounted than others. Popular brands like Avon, Dunlop, Michelin or Inoue may not be discounted as heavily as some others, particularly in-house brands. And if you're looking for specific models, such as the Avon Venom or Gangster, or the Dunlop Elite 3, your mileage may vary (pun intended).
With a little bit of research and work on your part, you should be able to find a decent discount whenever you're looking for new tires. But if you can wait for a sale to come up, you can save even more.
